The Braintree Historical Society will be hosting the first annual Braintree History Ride & Cemetery Tour as a fundraiser for the Restoration of the Slate Roof at the Braintree Hill Meetinghouse.
The event will be focused around a family friendly bicycle ride along Braintree Hill Road, leaving from the Meetinghouse, with lots of stops along the way to explore the history, scenic beauty and lasting importance of this special part of our town. We will explore some of our "ancient roads", admire 200 year old stone walls, and learn about the architectural heritage of Braintree. The ride is intended for most skill levels and bicycle types!
In addition to the bike tour (or as an alternative if you're not up for a ride) there will be self-guided tour of the historic Braintree Hill Cemetery, adjacent to the Meetinghouse. Many fascinating folks call that serene setting their final resting place. Wander the headstones as history comes to life around you (not literally, of course)!
The Historical Society's Musuem and the Meetinghouse will be open for the event as well.
Coffee from Carrier Roasting and pastries from Windy Lane Bakehouse are included with registration. Registration is $25 per person, $50 for a family of four, kids under 12 are free.
