What Makes an “Old” Forest? Sat Aug. 26 at Molly Stark

Past event
Aug 26, 2023, 10:30 AM

Windham County Forester Sam Schneski is the featured speaker at this year's annual meeting of WRWA (Windham Regional Woodlands Association), being held from 10:30 am to early afternoon on Saturday, Aug 26 at Molly Stark State Park on Route 9 in Wilmington. He'll be talking about the beneficial characteristics of old forests, and will describe actions landowners can take to help their not-so-old forests acquire those features. He'll also describe the new category that has been adopted by the Current Use program to encourage the development of more swaths of old forest in Vermont.

This won't be just a sit-and-listen talk. We'll go on a ramble through the Molly Stark State Forest, possibly off-trail, to find examples where Sam can illustrate the concepts. Following Sam's talk, WRWA will hold a short business meeting, after which we'll have a BYO picnic. Charcoal and grilling utensils will be provided. Come for just Sam's talk, or come for the whole shebang. You don't have to be a WRWA member to participate.

There is no charge for the WRWA program, but there is a $5 fee to enter the park. However, WRWA will be paying the entry fee for WRWA members; just tell them at the gate that you are a member. Are you 62 or older? Did you know you can get a lifetime pass to all the Vermont state parks from your town clerk for only $2?

Hope to see you on Saturday!
