Good Eating at the Charlotte Senior Center

Monday Munch, August 21 at the Charlotte Senior Center offers a tasty treat:
Pizza, Side of Salad, Brownies with Ice Cream

As the story goes, brownies were invented in Chicago when, in 1893, a prominent socialite whose husband owned the Palmer House Hotel asked a pastry chef for a dessert suitable for ladies attending the Chicago World's Fair. There's considerable dispute over who published the first recipe for this delight, but "brownie" appeared in the Sears Roebuck catalog, billed as selling everything from hubcaps to homes, in 1898.

Whoever invented it, everyone agrees that the brownie is as American as apple pie. At the Charlotte Senior Center they are brought to you by volunteer cooks, and the dirty dishes will be taken care of by volunteer dishwashers.

Because the Friends of the Charlotte Senior Center care about food for children's minds, we invite you to take kids you care about over to the Little Free Library for Kids at The Grange. Kids of all ages from 8 months to 18 years are sure to find something to take home and enjoy.

Listen to the Beatles' reminder, "I Get By with a Little Help from My Friends" and then go sign up as a volunteer at the Charlotte Senior Center.
