Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio: Why is Lt. Governor David Zuckerman touring Vermont to talk about book bans? And what are some of the top ideas for rebuilding Montpelier's downtown after the flood?
9:00 - 10:00 am
"Banned books are books worth reading," proclaims Lt. Governor David Zuckerman on his web page devoted to his current tour around the state to highlight the issue. How much of a threat is book banning to book stores, public libraries, and school libraries in Vermont? Why is it important for Vermonters to be talking about book banning threats? And what is he hearing from Vermonters who come to his sessions? Those are some of the questions I'll ask him—plus we'll find out what his favorite banned book is.

Around 500 people were at a meeting last Thursday night in Montpelier (200 of them online) to brainstorm ideas and issues for how to do flood recovery. There was much frustration with repeated flooding over the decades, plus a readiness by some to embrace radical change, like moving the downtown or jacking everything downtown up 15 feet. The next in a series of three meetings on the topic will be held this coming Tuesday, August 22, 6:30 - 9:00 pm in the State House. Two of the coordinators of the process, Paul Costello and Lauren Hierl, will preview what ideas that meeting will explore in more depth. Plus we'll hear some audio from last week's meeting.
