NATURE INVENTORY FIELD TRIP
Saturday, August 19 at 1 pm
Meet outside the Craftsbury Public Library
The Craftsbury Conservation Commission is launching an ongoing Nature Inventory Program in which all Craftsbury residents can participate.
Using two free mobile apps, everyone can submit photos and sound recordings of things we see and hear in nature to iNaturalist, a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. iNaturalist will save our observations to our project called TOWN OF CRAFTSBURY VT NATURE INVENTORY. You will learn how to do this on our instructional field trips. With our many eyes and ears, we can build up an impressive inventory of our plant and animal neighbors and use that information in our Town Plan which, by law, will be rewritten next year.
Any one, with a smart phone or iPad from age 13 and older can participate. And those under 13 can join in as well with parental permission. It would be great to have families. Maybe you could even add a treasure hunt option of some kind for your children.
We will meet outside the library to download the FREE apps iNaturalist and SEEK before the field trip. You will have to type in your email, and user name and password of your choice.
After downloading we will drive to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center for the field trip on a trail there.
Inventory from your own property, as well as public areas, is very valuable for this. You may have plants, insects etc. that are no place else in Craftsbury. And inventory from all the seasons will be very valuable as well.
Even if you came on the first field trip, you are welcome on this one as well.
Remember to bring your smart phone or iPad.
