Dear Ward 6 neighbors,

The next City Council meeting will be this Monday, August 14 beginning at 5:30pm.

You can sign up for public forum via this link: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/citycouncil/publicforum or in person by completing a sign-up form inside Contois. Public forum will begin at 6:15pm.

Key items on our agenda include:

• NEGOTIATION OF AN AGREEMENT WITH VTANG REGARDING CAPITAL INVESTMENTS – We will begin our evening with an expected executive session to discuss our negotiations with the Vermont Air National Guard who leases space from the Airport. This is an initial update and no Council action is expected.

• APPOINTMENT OF A DEPUTY CITY ATTORNEY – The mayor has announced the appointment of Jared Pellerin as the Deputy City Attorney. The Council must vote to confirm the appointment.

• FINANCIAL REVIEW OF THE RACIAL EQUITY INCLUSION AND BELONGING DEPARTMENT FOR FISCAL YEARS 2021 AND 2022 – The Administration announced in mid-March that an attorney had been hired to do a financial review of this department. The report is now complete and was given to the Council earlier this past week as a confidential document until it was posted on the City website on a few days ago, this past Thursday.

• SUPPORT FOR FAIR CONTRACT FOR UVMMC SUPPORT STAFF UNITED – This resolution expresses support for a collaborative and just contract for the support staff at UVMMC. This group of workers represent 2,350 employees of the hospital.

• REDISTRICTING ROLL-OUT – As you may recall, last March we voted to accept new ward and district boundaries due to the need to redistrict because of some shifts in population in the City. This memo reports that since the overall representation is still 8 wards and 4 districts, the 4 district councilor and school board members who were elected in 2023 will remain in office until 2025 and the 8 wards who have terms expiring in 2024 will be the only council and school board seats that will be up for election in 2024, in addition to the mayor and some election officials.

I encourage you to review these and other agenda items at: https://burlingtonvt.portal.civicclerk.com Once there, you can read the agenda and also subscribe to be notified when there are changes to city meetings.
