Please join us on Saturday, August 19 at 9:00 AM on Grant Road at the VAST trail crossing and travel back 250 years to meet early settlers in Marlboro. Prepare for a moderate hike of a little over a quarter mile through a field and woods to an old farm long since claimed by time. See on the ground the layout of the house, two wells, barn and stone walls. Learn about the families who lived there including Nathaniel Goodspeed and Samuel Gilbert, and some nearby neighbors. Don & Linda Fuhrman will host the walk on their property and Marcia Hamilton (from the Marlboro Historical Society) will talk about the history.
For those interested in a longer walk, meet / park at Don & Linda Fuhrman's house, 1386 Grant Road (brown saltbox with a big barn) and hike down to the headwaters of the Green River and then up a recent logging trail to meet up with the rest of the group at the Goodspeed cellar hole. Park at the farmhouse by 8:15, and start walking (for this longer hike) by 8:30; terrain includes some steep down and up, and adds at least 1/2 mile each way.
