The Mountain Views Supervisory Union (formerly Windsor Central Supervisory Union) is proud to announce a screening of the movie "The Right to Read" on August 24th at 6:30 p.m., at the Woodstock Union High School/Middle School auditorium. Our MVSU educators are committed to ensuring equity so our students grow to love reading and experience their highest potential through literacy instruction grounded in evidence-based practices.

"The Right to Read" shares the stories of an activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.

When a child can't read, their chances of incarceration, homelessness, and unemployment increase. That's why Oakland-based NAACP activist Kareem Weaver believes literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues of our time and is fighting for better reading instruction. "What good is winning the right to vote if we can't even read the ballot?" Fed up with the bleak reading scores in his own community, Kareem files a petition with the Oakland Unified School District demanding change.

Join us on Thursday, August 24th, at 6:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the WUHSMS as we learn about this national crisis and the local steps that have been taken to provide all students the opportunity to be joyful readers. A panel of teachers deeply involved in this work will follow to respond to questions.
