Do you live and walk in the NNE?
Whether for business or pleasure, walking can be a pleasant and healthy way to get around and get outside - if towns and cities provide the right conditions. Unfortunately, it is not always the case that walking in Burlington is safe, easy, or fun.
To help our community observe and discuss walking conditions in our neighborhood, I will be hosting a walk audit this Sunday, August 13th starting at 10am.
A walk audit is a group assessment of an area's safety, accessibility and comfort. For this audit, we will be meeting in front of the Bagel Cafe & Deli at the Ethan Allen Shopping Center and walking up, across and back down North Ave. The entire walk will be roughly 1 mile and take around an hour, leaving time for group discussion.
I'll give more details before we begin our walk. Anyone is welcome to participate - including wheelchair users and those with strollers and carts. I will be using the AARP's Walk Audit Toolkit to guide this walk, but there's no need to prepare anything in particular: https://www.aarp.org/livable-communities/getting-around/aarp-walk-audit-tool-kit-download/
I hope to hold more walk audits in the future in other areas of the NNE, so don't worry if you're unable to attend this one. Obviously the weather has been a bit unpredictable lately, but short of lightning and thunder, I'll still be walking.
Hope to see you there!
