The Art of the Creative Process art show has opened at Stone Valley Arts! Come join us at an Artists' Reception on Saturday, August 12, from 5pm to 7pm, where you can talk to the artists themselves.

If you have ever wondered how artists get an idea, and the paths they take to create that piece of artwork that we see, come to this show. Five amazing Vermont artists and the internationally renowned lighting design company from Castleton Corners, Hubbardton Forge, are joined together in this show to demonstrate how much variety there is in the creative process, and how important those processes are to the final outcomes.

The five individual Vermont artists who are featured in this exhibit represent five different media in the visual arts, and four different parts of the region: Kerry Furlani, sculpture from Poultney; John Lehet, photography from Hartland; Amy Mosher, oil painting from Chester; Judith Reilly, fabric art, and Ashley Wolff, illustration, both from Brandon. From awards, guest lectures, commissions, and other honors, the long list of recognitions that this group, including Hubbardton Forge, has collected over their careers is vast. Within their work, each demonstrates not only creative pathways, but also changes in their thinking, and various techniques that have influenced and inspired them.

"We need the arts to teach us how to exercise and nourish our creative muscles that spark our imaginations. It's this type of process that leads to high-level innovation," says Diane Bargiel, executive director of Stone Valley Arts. "And for those of us who have been moved, inspired, nourished, or transformed by art, it's good to be reminded that there is a lot of work and thought, and creative spark behind each piece. The great technology and engineering schools such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) know that the arts are integral to STEM education. Therefore, instead of STEM, we should be thinking STEAM."

So, it's full STEAM ahead at Stone Valley Arts! The Art of the Creative Process show can be viewed at all SVA events, and generally on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 2pm.
