The Montpelier Flood Choir, comprised of members of at least 7 Montpelier area church and community choirs, will be singing a 15-minute program of healing and hopeful songs in front of City Hall at Noon on Thursday, August 10th.
Inspired by the song "Requiem" by Eliza Gilkyson, the choir was convened by Unitarian Church of Montpelier Music Director Donia Prince. Gilkyson wrote the song in response to the Asian tsunami in December 2004, and it has since been sung in the wake of other water related disasters. It is a very powerful and moving piece of music.
The choir is especially grateful to be bringing music to the streets of Montpelier again in light of the cancellation of the Thursday Brown Bag Noon Concert series normally held at the now damaged Christ Church courtyard. This performance is dedicated to our beloved downtown businesses and all of those who have suffered losses from the floods.
This event is weather dependent. We will plan to proceed in light rain, but not if it's pouring!
