Come prepared to be awestruck and learn more about the life stages of Moths and then watch them dance under the lights against the darkening sky! The SCC is so fortunate to have Lepidopterist JoAnne Russo here to share her enthusiasm and knowledge about these important but under respected insects. JoAnne has been actively recording moth species in Vermont for over 15 years. She's helped lead the charge to record Vermont's many moths.
Moths are valuable pollinators and a food source for birds, bats and other wildlife. Only a small percentage of the 12,000 species in North America are destructive and most of those are not native but introduced. Join her to learn more about night-time lighting to attract moths, how to rear caterpillars, the fun of finding caterpillars at night with UV flashlights. She will also be bringing her favorite caterpillars and moth books along!
All ages welcome to view the Dance of the Moths, Bring a small flashlight and camera or cell phone for photographs. This event will be cancelled if it rains.
