The Johnson Planning Commission is seeking volunteers to serve on a steering committee for the exploration of the feasibility of Form Based Code Zoning for Johnson. If you want to serve on the Steering Committee the 1st meeting is this Wed., 8/20/14 at 7PM at the Town Hall. If you really want to serve but can't make it 8/20 please contact Bob Selby at bobselby@vtusa.net and he'll let Paul Dreher know to keep you in the loop for the next meeting.
Form Based Zoning is a new way of thinking about local control for the regulation of development in the community. This simpler approach to the problem of unchecked development is far less restrictive because it emphasizes the existing nature of the community it is designed to protect. The growing popularity of this approach is born out by the increasing number of communities that are currently adopting or switching to Form Based Zoning code in Vermont. You can learn more about Form Based Code at: http://www.formbasedcodes.org/
Paul Dreher Associates, a consulting firm from Newport, Vermont has been retained by Johnson to guide the exploration process. The steering committee will be composed of twelve citizen volunteers and charged with task of designing a model Form Based Zoning code tailored to Johnson. The committee will work directly with the Dreher firm to study Form Based code and to draft model regulations for presentation to the voters of Johnson for approval. Volunteers can expect to spend about two hours in biweekly evening meetings that are open to the public over a three-month period beginning in August.
Membership on the steering committee for the exploration of Form Based code is not restricted to residents of Johnson but is limited to those volunteers with a direct interest in the future of Johnson Village and Town including business owners, land owners, professionals, academics and other clear stakeholders.
Please feel free to contact Lea at 635-2611 or lkilvadyova@townofjohnson.com with any questions about committee service or contact the Chair of the Johnson Planning Commission, Bob Selby at bobselby@vtusa.net.
