Adam & Eve in Ripton

Past event
Aug 17, 2014, 7:30 to 9 PM

Diana Bigelow and Jim Stapleton will perform a dramatic reading, “The Diaries of Adam and Eve” at the Ripton Community Church on Sunday, August 17, at 7:30 pm. In 1893 Mark Twain published “Extracts from Adam’s Diary”. In 1906, shortly after the death of his wife, Olivia, Twain completed the companion piece, “The Diary of Eve”. Diana has selected passages from the two diaries that dramatize their lives together. The Diaries are sprightly and fun, as one would expect from Mark Twain, but they are also touching and wistful. They span the entire time from the First Couple’s meeting in Eden to Eve’s death many years later. Twain’s observations on the ageless contest between Man and Woman have a surprisingly modern ring.

The program runs forty-five minutes, admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. Donations to the restoration and preservation of the Ripton Community Church will be appreciated. The church is located on route 125 in the village center. Call 388-1062 for further information.
