Perceptions of Languages & Accents
Alexia Hernandez
Thursday, August 10 @ 6:00PM
Alexia has generously agreed to present her talk a second time in response to many requests from folks who were not able to attend the first presentation.
Alexia studies Hispanic accents and minoritized accents more generally. She'll speak about language's role in the social world, with a particular focus on discrimination, prejudice, and stereotypes. She will share a selection of her research as a jumping off point to discuss how we as a community can support migrant workers in the area.
Alexia Hernandez is a Linguistics PhD Candidate at Stanford University, where she is also pursuing a PhD Minor in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and a Designation in Cognitive Science. She graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Linguistics and has received several awards for her research.
