Farm to Ballet will visit Jericho Town Library tomorrow at 10:30am (Wednesday, 7/26) for a very special event. Author Maria Merciera will read her book, The Farm to Ballet Story, and Katie Decker of Ballet Vermont will join us for a special Meet & Greet and dance class.
A little about Farm to Ballet: Now Vermont's premier classical ballet company, Ballet Vermont started as a passion project to bridge the arts with sustainable agriculture. In 2015, Artistic Director Chatch Pregger and Executive Director Katie Decker dreamed up an event that would bring their favorite art form, classical ballet, to rural towns in Vermont. They envisioned ballet performances that celebrate Vermont's agricultural history and future by bringing a farm's ecosystem to life through dance. Thus, the Farm to Ballet Project was born: a series of ballet performances and live music performed outside on farms, entertaining and educating the community while also funding regenerative agriculture projects for the host farms.
The Farm to Ballet Project attracted ballet dancers of all backgrounds, from seasoned professionals to brand new hobbyists. The dance community formed by the Farm to Ballet Project inspired the creation of Ballet Vermont, a school and performing company for adult ballet dancers. Ballet Vermont provides a path for professional ballet dancers and musicians in Vermont to collaborate and produce Vermont-based original works of ballet, including our premier show, the Farm to Ballet Project. Ballet Vermont's mission is to provide high-quality, inclusive, and joyful ballet to the community.
