On Wednesday, July 19, world-renowned singer Nomfusi will appear at the Middlesex Bandstand as part of a U.S. State Department Center Stage Tour. Nomfusi's music is a beautiful and fearless mix of the Xhosa sounds of her childhood in the squatter camps of South Africa, ballads touched by gospel and American soul, and Afropop. She has performed with Angelique Kidjo and opened for Lionel Richie, and she portrayed Miriam Makeba in the 2014 film "Long Walk to Freedom," about the life of Nelson Mandela. The Bandstand is honored to welcome Nomfusi to Middlesex. The concert begins at 6:30 PM and is free; Woodbelly Pizza will be baking fresh pies.
A NOTE ON THE WEATHER ... The forecast for Wednesday looks fine at this point. If it does rain, the concert will be moved to the Rumney School gym, with its enhanced acoustics. If the weather is good but the meadow is still wet, bring chairs rather than a blanket, appropriate footwear, and a plastic tarp or sheeting for yourself and a friend. And good news: the hip-hop group A2VT that was rained out last week has rescheduled their performance to Wednesday, August 16!
