Please join the invasive Asian Jumping Worm workshop in the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library garden this Saturday, July 15, at 10am- rain or shine. It is sponsored by the library and the local UVM Extension Master Gardeners who donate their time to care for the library's beautiful flower gardens and the vegetable garden that supports the local food shelf.
We will discuss managing invasive Jumping Worms for the typical gardener—creating more sustainable and reasonable approaches to home gardening with JWs, and we'll show techniques for identifying and removing worms, including a mustard powder flush.
Jumping Worms have been found on a number of properties in our locale, and once in our rural yards, they can easily spread—damaging planting beds, gardens, our lawns, and ultimately and irreparably affecting our surrounding maple trees and forest ecology.
At this outdoor workshop, we will have:
- Live examples of European Earthworms and invasive Asian Jumping Worms
- Mustard powder samples available for flushing JWs
- Fact sheets
- Examples of JW cocoon sizes
