Hello Community, as part of our summer children's nature program The Growing Peace Project is hosting 4 free family workshops, and the first one is coming up this Saturday! Children age 5 and older, along with their siblings of any age, are welcome with one or more adult caregiver. All workshops will be held at our E Topsham site. Bring lunch to enjoy in the orchard with a view of the White Mountains. Thanks, and hope to see you there!

First Family Workshop - June 15 10:00 - 1:00
Garden Recipes with Jacqueline
An easy fun hands-on class making yummy food from the gardens. Depending on what's available we'll either be making sauces (basil pesto, parsley chimichurri, and cilantro salsa fresca) OR quick and easy refrigerator pickles with assorted veggies. We'll all work together to prepare the dishes, enjoy samples, and jar up our products to take home.

Second Family Workshop - June 22 10:00 - 3:00
Building Solar Cookers with Li Ling
In this workshop we'll learn about cooking with the sun, and you'll build your own handmade solar cooker. We will start with an intro to understand how much energy the sun is giving us. Then we'll learn about different solar cooker designs used around the world over the last thirty years. Once we understand what makes a good solar cooker, we'll get started building a home solar cooker that works in Vermont. Materials will be provided, and you'll have a chance to decorate your solar cooker as you like. If the weather cooperates we'll have solar-cooked treats for lunch, then finish up our solar cookers in the afternoon. You'll go home with everything you need to make solar-cooked food at home, even recipes!

Fire Building with Ally and Indira
Explore fire building! Gain team building skills by going on a scavenger hunt to find fire materials, learn different methods of building your fire, practice starting a fire with flint and steel, review safety practices, and cook a delish garden fresh lunch. Increase survival skills, eat from the land, and fill your bellies with potatoes, greens, bannock, and tasty sauces! Next thing you know you'll be hosting fire dinners to show off your new skills.

Fourth Family Workshop - August 20 10:00 - 2:00
Forest Bathing with Andrea
"Shinrin Yoku" or forest bathing, is a mindful process where we take in the elements of the forest through all of our senses, thus a sense of bathing in the forest atmosphere. Come stroll through the beautiful woods with your guide. We will orient our bodies to the four directions, learn a little bit about the first people who tended this land, experiment with "invitations," get to know a tree, notice what's in motion, and enjoy tea made from edible plants foraged along the way. Awaken your senses to the world around us, and leave with tools to strengthen inner peace while feeling refreshed, relaxed, rejuvenated, and more connected to yourself, each other, and your environment. Come prepared to play!
