Past event
Jul 12, 2023, 12 to 1 PM

Henry Sheldon Museum presents a series of six lunchtime gallery talks, held every other Wednesday, highlighting its current exhibition, ARTISTS IN THE ARCHIVES: UNSEEN NEIGHBORS.

CARLY THOMSEN, Associate Professor of Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies at Middlebury College, will speak, drawing on her book, Visibility Interrupted: Rural Queer Life and the Politics of Unbecoming (2021). Thomsen is also the producer of a related documentary film, In Plain Sight. Thomsen will discuss rural queerness past and present, as well as the relationships among cultural representation, activists' calls for "visibility," and the archive.
