The next EmpowR Transformation White Women Accountability Circle is Wednesday, July 12 at Grandmother Cherry Sanctuary in Plainfield, Vermont.
White accountability groups are one of many ways to approach racial justice work around the country. Accountability is not about apologizing for white ancestors. It is about dismantling systems of oppression that they built that white people maintain and benefit from at the exclusion of People of Color. When we gather in community to process and examine our own behaviors and communication, we learn from each other. This is part of doing the "personal work" of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging.
Dismantling systems of oppression and building something new is complex and brings up a lot of emotions and nervous system overload. This is why white people need spaces to process, discuss, share, and navigate the "personal work" without causing further harm to People of Color. EmpowR does this work because we have been asked to do it by People of Color as one of many ways to approach racial justice work.
Holding circles for women, femmes, and people socialized as women creates a safer space with the intersectionality of gender based oppression. EmpowR also offers programs for men where expressions of masculinity have a space to be examined.
