Starting July 9th and going through the 15th, Branbury state park will be participating in the Statewide Invasive Plant Phenology Monitoring Project, also known as SIPPMoP! This weekend and next weekend will have activities all about invasive plants and how to identify them and remove them from the ecosystems of Vermont, and starting this Sunday, we'll begin the SIPPMoP survey around the park.
Thursday 07/06
10 – 12:30 pm: Natural Crafts – Make a Herbarium - Learn about invasive and native plants
Stop in any time 10-12 and get the supplies to make your own invasive plants, play memory games, and learn more about the environment around you. Other crafts/activities will be held as well.
Special craft – Make a Herbarium!
- Bring your own notebook, use one provided, or make one at the nature center and get started on your very own herbarium journal! Join in on collecting and identifying plants while learning how to preserve them and keep them in your notebooks to use for identifying the plants around you.
1 – 4: Lake Chemistry
Take water quality samples and learn about the ecology and geology of Lake Dunmore! Supplies included.
Friday 07/07
9:00 – 10:00: Morning Paddle
Free kayak rental included! Limited to first come first serve of ~4 boats. Meet at the Nature Center just before 9 to sign up and get gear. Subject to cancellation due to weather

What does a crop of honeysuckle have to do with the success or failure of an entire ecosystem? Come find out in this interactive game where participants can learn how the plants, insects, and animals of Vermont interact with each other.

Saturday 07/08
10:30 – 12: Lakeside Watercolors
Sit by the lake and enjoy some landscape water coloring while learning about the environment around you. Supplies provided; feel free to bring your own.
1 – 4: Invasive Plant Crafts & Games
Learn how to identify the invasive plants of Vermont through a series of fun games and crafts! Activities include:
- Invasive plant go-fish
- Plant identification scavenger hunts
- "If you can't beat 'em – eat 'em!" – learn about edible invasive and native plants
