Build Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop—August 20th at the Monitor Barn

Rain barrels capture water that runs off your roof and into the nearest storm drain. Capturing the water to reuse on lawns, trees, shrubs and flowerbeds reduces pollution in the local streams, helps prevent flooding, and saves money on water bills.

On August 20th at 6:00, there will be a 'build your own barrel' demonstration along with discussion about other ways you can control stormwater on your property. This is free and open on a walk-in basis. If you want to build a barrel that evening, advanced registration (by August 18th) is required. The cost is $30. Space is limited to 20. All materials and tools will be provided. Be prepared to take your barrel home that evening. The barrels are from a food importer but will need to be rinsed or washed as part of the building process. Come prepared to get a little wet!

This event is organized by the Friends of the Winooski River in partnership with the Towns of Bolton, Huntington, Jericho and Richmond; and the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps.
