Past event
Jul 7, 2023, 6 PM

On Friday, July 7th from 6-7PM, teens will be meeting at Ilsley to discuss 2021's most challenged and banned book, Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe.

FREE copies of Gender Queer are available in the Ilsley Public Library Children's Room or you may email kathryn.laliberte@ilsleypubliclibrary.org to reserve a copy. Limited quantity available. First come, first served.

Story summary:

Maia Kobabe's (e/em/eir) intense graphic novel autobiography charts eir journey of self-identity, which includes the confusion of teen crushes, grappling with how to come out to family and society, and bonding with friends over gay fanfiction.

Gender Queer is more than a personal story: it is a useful and touching guide on gender identity--what it means and how to think about it--for advocates, friends, and humans everywhere.
