The Rochester Chamber Music Society will present violinist David Greenberg of the group Red Priest, joining forces with cellist Abby Newton (a frequent accompanist to Jean Redpath), on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. at the Rochester Federated Church.

David Greenberg is known primarily as a baroque violinist who also plays fiddle in the Cape Breton and 18th-century Scottish styles. He grew up in Maryland, learning violin from age four and exploring various fiddling styles early on.

Abby Newton is well known for her groundbreaking work in the revival of the cello in American and Scottish traditional music. She has produced and performed on over a hundred folk recordings including 17 CDs with Scottish singer, Jean Redpath. She has appeared several times on Prairie Home Companion and Fiona Ritchie, of the nationally syndicated NPR show Thistle and Shamrock, did a feature program on Abby’s music and her influence on the folk cello movement.

Greenberg is known for his imaginative and dynamic performances of traditional and early music, and Newton, with her band Ferintosh, draws a wide audience with performances that touch the heart and soul. This powerhouse duo will be joined by soprano Mary Bonhag; double bassist Evan Premo; and pianist Cynthia Huard.

The all baroque and folk program promises a perfect finale to the RCMS summer series. For more information, call 802-767-9234 or visit www.rcmsvt.org.
