DECLARES … YOU'RE A (VERY) GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN!

And, the Brownsville Independence Day Celebration is the story of the region's most loveable volunteers! Don't be shy, join this group of WINNERS for just a little bit of your time on July 3 when you get the legitimate pass to tell folks what to do as a parking volunteer. Here's everything you need to know about the Brownsville Vermont Independence Day Celebrations July 2, 3 & 4 – one of the largest all-volunteer events in the Upper Valley made available by a small Vermont town …

The mountain and village burst out in celebration starting on July 2 at 1:00 at Ascutney Outdoors, where the Weston Theater Company will present their production of
"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" which follows the life of the Peanuts Comic strip & America's most loveable loser. This production is free but tickets must be reserved by calling the Weston Theater Box Office at 802-824-5288 or by emailing tickets@westontheater.org

On the evening of July 3 (after you've been properly parked) from 6:00 until about 9:00 on the slopes of Mt. Ascutney, there will be an array of delights for all. The local Moonlighters Snowmobile Club will be serving up their all-time favorite hot dogs, hamburgers and fries and Wicked Awesome BBQ will provide finger-lickin' good barbeque and sides. To top off your meal, the perennial Lazy Cow Ice Cream and -NEW - AJ's Fried Dough will be serving up their sweet delights.

Please note that barbeques are not permitted and Ascutney Outdoors' BYOB Policy can be seen at https://www.ascutneyoutdoors.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/BYOB-policy-revised-2.1.2020.pdf

Streaming into the night will be the music of the Fire House Dixie Land Band. For the evening's finale, there will be the SPPECTACULAR FIREWORKS display by Northstar Fireworks of East Montpelier, Vermont. After you've enjoyed this incredible food & magnificent display please follow signs and direction on exiting the parking lot.

The next morning on July 4th, come down to Brownsville Village where the Outreach Committee of the Brownsville Community Church will be serving an abundant community breakfast from 8:30 until 10 which can be enjoyed indoors or in the church's new Tribute Park Pavilion. This is a fund raiser to benefit local non-profits. From 9:30 until 1:30, church volunteers will have a Bouncy Castle set up for young and young-at-heart to enjoy. And, there will be a Community Barn Dance for all ages from 11 until 12:30 with "Caller", Hootin' Holleran (Ruth) in the Brownsville Church's new Tribute Park Pavilion.

From 10 until 3, folks can wander over to the Town Hall where vendors will be selling their wares, various local groups will be providing important information and the Friends of the Mary L. Blood Library will be holding a book sale. Cross the street to the Library to meet our new Librarian, Liz Frederick, and get your free Library Card.

Outside of Town Hall there will be the aroma of luscious foods cooking on grills and in a wood fired oven. At that point, an appetite for lunch might be building. The Moonlighters will have come off the mountain to serve their grilled goodies and American Pie of Ludlow will be offering an array of toppings on their famous, delicious wood-fired pizzas. And, for dessert, the West Windsor Fast Squad will be serving their fruit smoothies and from 11 – 1 the West Windsor Historical Society will be holding an Ice Cream Social at The Grange.

Music by the Firehouse Dixieland Band will once again entertain everyone until the highlight of the day begins at 1:30, when the Grand Independence Day Parade will process down the hill on the Brownsville Hartland Road. There will be decorated floats, Shriner's Clown antics on their little "trykes", great big fire trucks from all over the region, antique cars, and proud marchers, too. There are three parade grand prizes this year: Most On-Theme, Most Patriotic, and Makes-Us-Laugh. Winners of the three prizes receive ribbons and a $100 cash prize. There is also a fire truck award being given by the West Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. Note that the Brownsville Hartland Road will be closed to all through traffic starting at 1:00 until the end of the parade.

Anyone who would like to participate in the parade - veterans, antique cars/tractors, horses/oxen, convertibles, groups, floats, ninjas - please reach out to Mark and he will provide you with the relevant information. Reach Mark at markndog@aol.com or 802-962-1149.
