Middlebury Community Players Company Be Summer Season is getting ready to premiere next Thursday! Our first production of the summer is "Red", the Tony award willing play by John Logan, happening at the Vergennes Opera House with four performances starting June 22-24th at 7:30 pm, and finishing up on the 25th at 2 pm. —It's 1959. Mark Rothko, the American Abstract expressionist, (along with his brash, new, young assistant) is working on a commission for a series of murals by the then-under-construction Four Seasons Restaurant. Rothko struggles to justify accepting this commission (the biggest mural commission since the Sistine Chapel) with his ascetic and anti-materialistic beliefs. For Rothko art is a visceral and tactile as well as cerebral experience. Indeed, an apt description for this play, as well! Starring Lonny Edwards and Ethan DeWitt, and directed by Kevin Commins. Tickets are $10 (Cash or check only, please). Want to know more about our summer season? There are more great shows to come...
