Make Music Day in Randolph Featuring Larry and Joe

Past event
Jun 21, 2023, 5 to 9:30 PM

In honor of Make Music Day, a worldwide celebration of music, Chandler Music Hall brings the multicultural duo Larry and Joe for two events in Randolph. At 5 PM at Bethany Church, they will lead a free bilingual singing workshop. At 7:30 PM they will perform on the Chandler Main Stage.

Both are multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters, on a mission to show that music has no borders. Larry Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela, and is a legend of Llanera music. Joe Troop, from North Carolina, is a GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time musician. Larry was forced into exile and is now an asylum seeker in North Carolina. Joe, after a decade in South America, got stranded back at home during the pandemic.

They perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, guitar, maracas and whatever else they throw in their van. Their program blends musical inheritances and traditions, as well as storytelling about how music and social movements coalesce.

Tickets are "pay what you can", to help cover the costs of hosting the band, but "free if need be" fitting with the international Make Music Day's focus on community music-making.
