Do you own lakefront property? Are you concerned about water quality in your lake? Would you like information and resources on what you can do to make a difference?
Join us for a Lake Wise workshop on Saturday, June 24th, 10am - 1pm at the Glover Town Hall. Lake Wise is a program that encourages lake-friendly living and shoreline landscaping practices that protect water quality in our lakes. We will provide free refreshments, opportunities to connect with neighborhoods, and four prestation's: VTDEC Lakewise program, OCNRCD project management services, Northwoods Stewardship center best management practices installation services (BMPs) and a lakeshore landowner experiences testimonials. BMPs include landscape design approaches help mitigate the impacts of stormwater runoff and erosion on lakeshore properties. BMP's include creating "no mow" zones, revegetating shorelines, building infiltration steps, and installing water bars, swales and rain gardens.
The event is sponsored by the Town of Glover, Lake Shadow Association, Parker Lake Association, and the Orleans County Conservation District. There are two major lakes in the township of Glover, with approximately 230 camps on their shores: Shadow Lake, which is 210 acres and 139' deep, and Lake Parker, which is 239 acres and 48' deep. The next biggest waterbody is Daniels Pond at 61 acres and 13' deep.
According to the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, the density of lake‐centered residences in Vermont is more than double that in the urban areas of the state. This indicates that Vermont's lakeshores receive some of the greatest amount of development pressure of any land area in the state and have significant impacts on water quality.
