The Town of Richmond urgently needs volunteers to work as flaggers on July 4th, assisting with closing the roads for the parade and possibly working as crossing guards in the evening as people are leaving the fireworks. If we don't get enough people, we can't safely close the streets and hold the parade and fun run. We would like to have at least ten participants so we can have people working in pairs.
We have looked to various agencies to find sufficient legally qualified flaggers to help us close Jericho Road, East and West Main Street, and Bridge Street on the morning of July 4th and were not able to get anywhere near enough people who are certified to work as flaggers. (You name it, we've asked. People are otherwise committed or have their own plans for the day.)
The town's insurer, PACIF (https://www.vlct.org/pacif) offers free training/certification to participants in a two-hour classroom session. Upon completion of the training you will be legally qualified as a flagger and can help us with street closures and crossing guard duties. The training is good for a lifetime, although PACIF does recommend refreshing your training every four years or so.
The training will take place at the Richmond Town Center (203 Bridge Street) at 7 pm on Thursday, June 22. There is no cost to attend, but we would like to know how many people are coming. Please email me at jay.furr@richmondvt.org or simply reply via email to this post . We will also need everyone to fill out a volunteer form so you'll be covered by town insurance.
Thank you in advance for signing up and helping us!
