NATURE INVENTORY FIELD TRIP
Sunday, June 25 at 2 pm
Meet at the Outdoor Center's Lakeside Trail
a ½ mile north of the Center on Lost Nation Rd

The Craftsbury Conservation Commission is launching an ongoing Nature Inventory Program in which all Craftsbury residents can participate.

Using two free mobile apps, everyone can submit photos and sound recordings of things we see and hear in nature to iNaturalist, a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. iNaturalist will save our observations to our project called TOWN OF CRAFTSBURY VT NATURE INVENTORY. You will learn how to do this on our instructional field trips. With our many eyes and ears, we can build up an impressive inventory of our plant and animal neighbors and use that information in our Town Plan which, by law, will be rewritten next year.

Any one, with a smart phone or iPad from age 13 and older can participate. And those under 13 can join in as well with parental permission. It would be great to have families. Maybe you could even add a treasure hunt option of some kind for your children.

If you can, please download the FREE apps iNaturalist and SEEK before the field trip. In the App Store search for iNaturalist and download. It's second on the list that comes up. (Do NOT mistakenly download Planto), the first on the list. Next, do the iNaturalist signup. It will ask for your email, your user name and a password. Check the next 3 boxes which allow people in other countries to send their observations to iNat servers in the U.S. Then download SEEK, third on the App Store list. Signing up for Naturalist signs you up for SEEK as well.

If you need help downloading and signing up, please come to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center activity center building at 1:30 pm. Remember to bring your smart phone or iPad and a password for your iNaturalist account.

Inventory from your own property, as well as public areas, is very valuable for this. You may have plants, insects etc. that are no place else in Craftsbury. And inventory from all the seasons will be very valuable as well.

If you came on the first field trip, you are welcome on this one as well.
