The Charlotte Planning Commission will hold (another) public hearing at Town Hall in Charlotte to hear public comments on proposed amendments to the Charlotte Land Use Regulations (LURs) regarding standards for permitting and regulating cannabis businesses in Charlotte. We want to hear from residents and affected businesses with feedback on the proposed rules, which have been revised since our original public hearing was held in March.
The State of Vermont has mandated that all aspects of cannabis production, including indoor cannabis cultivation and processing, be classified as businesses. As a business, it must comply with Land Use Regulations, similar to other businesses in Town.
This rehearing is being held to address several changes to current state cannabis statutes that were enacted by the Vermont Legislature in the last week of the legislative session in May. These changes rendered moot several sections of the original draft cannabis standards that were approved by the Planning Commission on May 4 . Changes were made to that draft to comply with the new statute. The revised draft was posted to the town website. That draft will be the subject of this public rehearing this Thursday.
The proposed LURs revisions, a User's Guide, and a detailed report are available on the Town website at: https://www.charlottevt.org/index.asp?SEC={6486B83D-0E62-4448-85B2-33D20E1ABB39}. The public hearing warning and meeting agenda, which includes a Zoom login link for those who prefer to participate remotely, has been posted to the town website's 'Meeting Calendar and Agendas' page, linked under the meeting date.
If you cannot attend this hearing, you may submit comments in writing to Town Planner, Charlotte Town Hall, 159 Ferry Rd., Charlotte, VT 05445, or electronically via email to the address above.
Also on the agenda for this week's PC mtg.:
* Next steps in that process; additional opportunities for public input
* Joint meeting/discussion with members of the Development Review Board on LURs amendment priorities
* Work session on draft LURs amends re: EV charging, 1-unit limit on residences in mixed use projects, revised cannabis standards
* Review & approve draft mtg. minutes from June 1 PC mtg.
The public is invited to participate in this important conversation. All are welcome!
