Come and learn the ancient craft of Slavic embroidery! The symbolic language of Slavic embroidery is a system of writing where paper and ink are replaced by cloth and thread. As in all traditional crafts, the patterns of embroidery were strictly regulated by tradition, preserving ancient symbols on clothing and kitchen towels.
Students will practice and learn the "painting stitch" an ancient embroidery method used for ritual designs. Teacher Tanya Shlotova was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. While she has worked professionally as an ecologist, oceanographer and educator, her passion is flower gardening and traditional folk crafts.
The workshop will take place at Cate Hill Orchard in Greensboro. $40. To register, or for more information, please reply to this email.
