As part of the Town's Memorial Day observance, the St. Johnsbury Band will offer a concert of special music to honor all men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The concert starts 10:00 AM Monday May 29th at the Courthouse. The earliest piece on the program will be "The Triumph of Old Glory," also known as "The President's March." This piece, composed in 1907, predates the official national anthem, "Stars and Stripes Forever," by 24 years, although the tune can be heard in the older piece.
Also on the program are "The American Red Cross March," a World War I era composition for which the band has the original 1919 arrangement, "A Salute to the Colors," honoring the flag, and "America's Finest," a medley of service songs. Vietnam Veterans will be remembered with "The Ballad of the Green Berets."
The formal observances at Court House Park starts at 10:30.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this observance of Memorial Day, a local and national tradition of over 100 years.
