Join award-winning cartoonist, translator and co-editor Marek Bennett for a closer look at the Vermont Reads 2022 book The Most Costly Journey. Based on true stories told by migrant farm workers in VT and drawn in collaboration with other cartoonists, this groundbreaking anthology explores issues of community, citizenship, and survival. The original interview project was initiated by Starksboro's own Julia Grand Doucet.
Marek presents some of his many comics documenting human migrations and struggle throughout the ages and discusses the power of books with images AND text. He'll also touch on the history of censorship around comics and graphic novels. Graphic novels are REAL BOOKS! This is sure to be an interesting conversation. Contact the library to participate via Zoom and you will be sent a link.
