World Premiere Opera in Brandon! (Giacomo's Muse)

BARN OPERA in Brandon is the host of the WORLD PREMIERE of "Giacomo's Muse" by British composer and librettist team, Philip Henderson and Doug Macari (who will be traveling from LONDON to BRANDON for this event.) This production also marks BARN OPERA's first live world premiere, and also it's first opera with a live chamber orchestra!

The story is based on the historical events and scandal surrounding Giacomo Puccini (the world-famous composer of La Bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, and many other household name operas). Puccini, however gifted, was a well-known womanizer with an understandably jealous wife, Elvira. After welcoming a new housemaid into their house, Elvira accused the maid, Doria, of infidelity, and set out to make her a pariah in the town. She succeeds and the false accusation and isolation that Doria experiences weighs on her, and she ultimately takes her own life. In the autopsy, it is proven that Doria Manfredi was a virgin. Puccini never fully recovered from the event.

The opera is a retrospective piece, told with flashbacks, from the perspective of a young composer who summons the ghost of Puccini to discover ultimate truth. This is a story of inspiration, love, revenge, truth, spanning all of time, with incredibly beautiful and poetic text.

BARN OPERA Artistic Director and Associate Director, tenor Joshua Collier and baritone Nicholas Tocci, star as the young composer, Giac, and Giacomo Puccini, and are joined by JoAnna Pope (Charlotte in "The Letters of Charlotte - Feb 2023), and BARN OPERA newcomers, Soprano Sarah Callinan, and Andrew Jurden. The ensemble is led by BARN OPERA Music Director Cailin Marcel Manson, with Claire Black at the piano, and a chamber orchestral ensemble from Vermont and beyond.

Be one of the first 200 people in the world to hear this music and see this opera, and stay for a talk back with the composer after!
