Peace & Justice Center Event: Fly Kites Not Drones

Past event
Aug 2, 2014

This Saturday the Peace & Justice Center will be flying kites on Burlington’s waterfront to celebrate an Afghani tradition. In Afghanistan being the best kite flyer in ones neighborhood is a very sought after and respectable achievement. One Afghani boy said he enjoyed flying kites, “It’s because when I play kites with my friends I feel so free and happy!” Another young girl said, “Kite flying has special enjoyment because it’s an interesting form of leisure” (Afghan Peace Volunteers). This recreational tradition brings joy and pride to thousands Afghanis! Come out and join the Peace & Justice Center to fly kites in solidarity with Afghan Peace Volunteers on Saturday, August 2nd from 2:00pm at Burlington’s Waterfront Park! The Peace & Justice Center has a handful of homemade kites that participants will be able to fly but feel free to bring your own kite if you would like. This event is free and open to people of all ages! We hope to see you there!
