Learn more and engage with your fellow community members! You are invited to join a 3-part discussion of Bill McKibben's recent book - The Flag, the Cross and the Station Wagon; A Graying American Looks Back at His Suburban Boyhood and Wonders What the Hell Happened, at the Richmond Congregational Church on three dates - June 12, June 26, and July 10. The discussion group will meet from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, both in person (in the church Parlor) and by Zoom. You are welcome to join all three events or any one that works for your schedule. The group will discuss the first section, "The Flag", pages 1 – 85, in the first session on June 12.

Bill McKibben is an award-winning author, activist, and educator. He is fiercely curious about "what went so suddenly sour with American patriotism, American faith, and American prosperity." The book is both a memoir about growing up in Lexington, MA, and a history of what happened in the past fifty year in which McKibben "finds himself in an increasingly doubtful nation strained by bleak racial and economic inequality, on a planet whose future is in peril." And he is curious: What the hell happened?

Please purchase a copy of the book or download a digital copy from the Richmond Library. A limited number of paperback copies will be available at the Richmond Congregational UCC at a cost of $15.00 each. Please let us know that you are interested in participating, and/or want the Zoom link sent to you, by emailing Jen Greenwood, RCC Office Administrator at church@rccucc.org.
