Come and try some old time games from the Victorian Era and see what fun kids had before computers!
The Noyes House Museum at 122 Lower Main Street in Morrisville, is once again having its annual Children’s Day and Lemonade Social on Saturday, August 2, from noon to 4:00 p.m.
A variety of 19th century games will be available on the lawn and under the event tent for mom, dad, grandparents, kids, or anyone who wants to see how your ancestors had fun. You can try out the Game of Graces – send beribboned hoops through the air and catch them on sticks. (This game was appropriate for “young ladies” but boys enjoyed it too!); Battledore and Shuttlecock – an early form of badminton and table tennis, played with wooden paddles and a cork and feather ‘birdie’; Whip Tops – send a wooden top spinning, see who can keep theirs going the longest; Knucklebones – the earliest form of jacks – played with knucklebones from sheep; Croquet – popular since the mid-1800’s, this is still a popular summer game; and much more!
This event is free and open to the public. For information phone: (802) 888-7617 or email: noyeshousemuseum@gmail.com.
