Moving Light Dance Company presents The Wizard of Oz!

Saturday June 3rd 7pm & Sunday June 4th 2pm

Tickets: $24-$12

Journey with Dorothy, her lovable dog Toto, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion on an adventure filled with challenges as they seek for the things they most desire.

Presenters of The Green Mountain Nutcracker, Moving Light Dance Company return to the Opera House for their annual spring performance with a cast of 60 dancers of all ages. This original ballet features all-new choreography, costumes, sets, and lighting design, supporting a storyline taken from the book written by L. Frank Baum as well as the popular cinematic adaptation. The ballet is set to a carefully assembled musical score by composers Maurice Ravel, Modest Mussorgsky, Robert Schumann, Claude Debussey, and Zoltan Kodaly, and seamlessly weaves classical and contemporary elements.

The ballet opens in Kansas where our heroine Dorothy lives with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry and her most devoted companion, the energetic and lovable dog Toto. To Dorothy, the farm is a place lacking color and vibrancy, and she restlessly dreams of venturing elsewhere. One day a cyclone rips through and sweeps Dorothy and Toto in the farmhouse to a place stranger than Dorothy could have dreamed: the Land of Oz. In falling from the sky, the house crushes and kills the Wicked Witch of the East, an evil oppressor of the innocent citizens of Oz. Her ruby slippers (and whatever magic they may possess) now belong to Dorothy, as well as the enmity of the Wicked Witch of the West, the tyrannical sister of the dead witch. The Witch of the West vows vengeance on Dorothy and Toto. Dorothy, overwhelmed, wants only to return to the safety of Kansas, but Glinda the Good informs her that to do so she must undertake a journey across Oz to meet the Wizard Oz. Along the way she and Toto befriend the brainless but kindly Scarecrow, the would-be-romantic Tin Woodsman longing for a heart, and the quivering cowardly Lion. They all need Oz's help, but can they do what is required to earn it?

Performance is about 2 hours long with a 15-minute intermission.
