Hi All,
I don't often feel compelled to write about a town event or show we (Barbara & I) attend. But yesterday we went to Green Mountain College and saw the most marvelous play "Othello" performed by Shakespeare On Main Street, and directed by Gary Meitrott . I had taken drumming lessons from this very nice fellow, Gary Meitrott, and I continue to this day. Right after drumming he would teach a School of Outrageous Shakespeare. His students were the most interesting of sort (I think I was enthralled a little at the talent these people put forth). Well I was a long winter time through snow storms and freezing rains we all studied under this most energetic super talented master of arts. Well what transpired was I got a little bit better at playing the Djembe (African drum) and they learned Shakespeare's Othello. I've only been to a dozen or modern day plays and even less classical plays. I didn't even know the story (thank goodness and I won't want to be a spoiler). But interesting thing about this play is the costumes that Diane Cadorette (she also plays the drum, so cool) chose depicts the characters in modern day dress. They use cell phones, it's all very interesting, the language is Shakespeare but the feeling of the actors and what they convey is every bit today. The turnout was atrocious (about 50) but what a treat for the audience. We sat front row center (never ever sat this close to the stage) it was truly like being amongst the actors, it was grand. The acting was so superb I dare not say each was the best. You disliked the villains, and had compassion for the victims, and there were plenty of each. What a marvelous time. Lucky you, they will be playing August 1 & 2 @ 7:30 PM and August 3 @ 2:00 PM (I was the 2:00 PM day we went) at the Riley Center for the performing Arts Burton Academy, in Manchester. For ticket reservations contact Lawrence Zupan 802 366 0110. This is a really nice treat only $18, Seniors/Students/Military $15.
Happy summer Alan & Barbara.
