The League of Women Voters of Vermont (LWVVT) supports and educates citizens about ranked choice voting (RCV).

On May 8 at 7 pm, Dr. Betty Keller, League of Women Voters of Vermont, will give a brief overview of what is in S. 32 and then provide an update on what has happened with the bill since leaving the VT Senate, and what supporters can do to educate about and advocate for RCV. There will also be an opportunity to ask more questions after the update.

If passed, S. 32, a bill that would establish ranked choice voting for presidential primary elections in Vermont would have Vermont citizens use the ranked choice method of voting in the 2028 presidential primary elections. It would also allow municipalities to choose RCV for some local elections as soon as 2024 Town Meeting Day and would create a summer study committee to develop policies for implementing RCV for the presidential primaries and assessing the possibility of starting RCV in 2026 for some statewide elections.

On Tuesday, May 9, at 9:05 AM producer and host Joseph Gainza will interview Betty for his Gathering Peace radio show on WGDR Central Vermont Community Radio, WGDR 91.1 FM; WGDH 91.7 FM, with a focus on how RCV can reduce negative campaigning and partisan polarization. Call in to Studio A at (802) 454-7762 to ask questions. To live stream, go to http://www.wgdr.org and scroll down until you see the "Listen now" button on the right.

The League of Women Voters of Vermont advocates for ranked choice voting, a fairer and more equitable system where all votes matter. Instead of voting for a single candidate, voters rank their preferred candidates on the ballot – first, second, third, and so on, with the end-result producing more of a consensus winner. The League is conducting a robust public education program to familiarize voters with this voting system and reinforce voter confidence. As additional events are scheduled, they will be posted at https://lwvofvt.org/events-calendar/.
