Book Discussion and Presentation at BNML

Join us at Fairfield's Bent Northrop Memorial Library(BNML)for a presentation and facilitated book discussion of The Most Costly Journey Thurs May 11 @ 6:30 PM.

Much of the work on Vermont dairy farms is done by people from Latin America. Over a thousand migrant laborers from Mexico and other countries milk cows, fix tractors, shovel manure, and take care of calves in our state. The Most Costly Journey (El viaje más caro), tells the stories of 19 of these workers in their own words. Illustrated by New England cartoonists in a variety of styles, each short chapter describes aspects of life as an immigrant farm worker in Vermont: crossing the southern border, struggling with English, adapting to winter, growing gardens, raising children, dealing with health crises, and working long hours.

There is still time to pick up a book at Fairfield's Bent Northrop Memorial Library before next Thursday's presentation and discussion! Read some or all of the book or just show up to share and learn about the lives of folks in our community.

Snacks and Milk will be available!

Brought to the community with support from the VERMONT AGENCY OF AGRICULTURE, FARM TO SCHOOL VISION GRANT, a collaborative project between the Fairfield Community Center, BNML and Fairfield School Outdoor Classroom
