You are invited to an in-person gathering of the Chittenden Asylum Seekers Assistance Network (CASAN) on Saturday, May 13 beginning at 1:00pm.
Our grassroots non-profit volunteer group assists people in Chittenden County who are in the lengthy legal process of seeking asylum. Asylum seekers, unlike refugees, are not allowed to receive many kinds of government assistance, nor are they are allowed to work until reaching a certain point in the asylum process. And so our group formed in 2019.
Come to hear updates and amazing stories of resilient people as they build new lives in safety, and enrich our communities. Learn about opportunities to volunteer and support people at a vulnerable time in their lives. There are so many people in our area who need this kind of assistance, and we hope to expand the circle of support.
We will also be celebrating the successful completion of our first fundraiser, Arts for Asylum Seekers! We will honor the Creatives who wrote poetry, drew, took photos, crafted, and did other projects in April to raise money to assist asylum seekers. After the updates and Q&A, there will be time to meet some of the Creatives and see examples of their work in person. Light refreshments will be served.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 13 beginning at 1:00pm with updates and Q&A, followed by social time, ending no later than 3pm.
Held at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington
152 Pearl Street (at the top of Church Street)
Parking is available behind the building or on nearby streets.
