Dear neighbors,
The weather looks great for Saturday's 2nd Annual Barge Canal Green Up Festival. Friends of the Barge Canal (FBC) is gathering volunteers for another round of cleaning up and celebrating our local wild space and Superfund site. Here's the "event" page from the FBC website: https://www.pinestreetbargecanal.org/events/clean-up-event. We will be working from 9 AM to 3 PM. Come for an hour or the whole day!
Last year, we removed a MOUNTAIN of trash, mostly from old encampments. This year, there is less garbage so more time for other activities. Besides trash removal, we will have art activities led by local artists Annie Caswell and Kristian Brevik, we will build a labyrinth with found materials and work on cutting non-native buckthorn from the woods. Lunch will be provided by The People's Kitchen at noon.
Bring water to drink and dress appropriately: long pants, sturdy shoes, sun hat (!) and work gloves if you have them. Kids are welcome but must be very closely supervised since there is poison ivy everywhere and random junk around the whole site. Meet at the red umbrella across from Dealer.com.
Thanks for support from DPW, Curtis Lumber, Town Meeting TV and many others.
