Brainstorm for Plainfield!! Community Trust

Past event
May 7, 2023, 10:30 AM to 12 PM

Do you have an idea that would make Plainfield a better place for you, your kids, your neighbors? What would you like to see happen here?

We are forming a non-profit, community trust for Plainfield. The Selectboard has generously allocated some ARPA funds for initial set up costs, we have a lawyer who has graciously offered his time to see to the legalese, we have some folks from Vermont Preservation Trust who have agreed to consult with us - but what we want most are the ideas and passion projects of Plainfield residents...

Our initial meeting is next Sunday, at the Community Center upstairs from the Coop - please come, if even only to hear what others have to say. You are not obligated beyond the one meeting, but we do want to find people who would be willing to serve on the board, to be able to write a mission statement that is inclusive of all the ideas, and to start the ball rolling in the right direction. The idea is that this is an umbrella group, that if you have an idea, and there is a grant out there that can fund it but can only be given to a non-profit, we would be that non-profit. There is some discussion about whether the group should have it's own fund, or ONLY serve as an umbrella.

I have heard people mention affordable housing, child care, playground equipment, beautification projects, money to help restore historical buildings, a dog park - if those are your ideas, or you have other ideas that you think should be included, please come. If you have opinions about the way it is to be structured, come share them. We welcome any and all input, and also welcome those who prefer to just watch and listen.

Hope to see you there!
