Wellness ~ Education ~ Movement ~ Performance!
In May we offer Group and Private Alexander Technique educational training for enhancing the way we use ourselves at rest or moving. Your teacher is a certified M. AmSAT (American Society for the Alexander Technique) with more than 1600 hours of training in NYC at the Balance Arts Center in Manhattan. Info, schedule and booking at the website.
Curious about AT? Mainly: AT is an experiential, gentle approach to enhancing your wellbeing and well-doing.
The approach does not imply the learning of a specific movement or a choreography. Your learning is based on your own way of resting or moving, your own way of using your body and mind in any circumstance: driving, cooking, sitting, standing, walking, biking, playing your favorite musical instrument, singing, speaking a lot, gardening, teaching, traveling a lot, care giving for hours, etc..
After long hours, days, years, our body-mind gets into habitual ways of doing whatever we are doing. We all develop millions of daily habits, some good, some potentially harmful. We may be happy with the situation, or we may find at times that, oh well, it would be good to sense LESS strain, less fragility, less hesitation or fear of moving, even less pain; and we would rather feel MORE buoyancy, more balance, more coordination, more poise, more endurance, more confidence.
With the guidance of your certified M. AmSAT teacher, you learn HOW to uncover potentially harmful habits using your self, your body and your mind. Habit versus Choice. Potentially harmful habit versus educated choice.
Alexander Technique is not prescriptive; it is experiential. The AT teacher will not tell you what is right or wrong, what to do or not to do. The teacher will only guide you with voice and hand gestures, to allow you to discover, by yourself, HOW you actually move and whether want to bring some change and improvement. The learning is yours. You gain educated self-agency . You gain a tool for life.
Disclaimer: Although people practice it for relieving pain ( neck, shoulder, hip, low back pain for example), Alexander Technique DOES NOT replace your medical specialist.
Practicing the Alexander Technique is like taking care of your teeth! It does not replace your dentist nor your medical specialist! So in case of medical situation, DO visit your doctor!
Meanwhile, with Alexander Technique on your side, you may happily reduce the number of visits. For your own pleasure and I am sure the one of your health care taker.
