NOTE LOCATION CHANGE! This session is at the School. On Tuesday evening, May 2nd, the Peacham Library is hosting the second of a pair of workshops titled "Strengthening 21st Century Democracy in Peacham", led by author, educator, and facilitator Susan Clark. These sessions are exploring democratic engagement and processes in Peacham including town meeting and other arms of town governance. The session will take place on Tuesday, May 2nd from 6:30pm - 8:30pm in the Peacham Elementary School at 340 Bayley-Hazen Road.
The first session attracted 40 participants and included a presentation of data and trends on democratic engagement at the state and local level, followed by a facilitated process to identify what we value in our local democracy. At the upcoming session, participants will work towards identifying and prioritizing action steps based on values identified at the April session. In the last 10 days close to 100 people in town completed a survey that will help focus our discussion on Tuesday.
ALL residents of Peacham are invited to attend, whether you regularly participate at town meeting or not. Even if you didn't come to the first session, please come on Tuesday. We want input from as broad a cross-section of the community as possible. If you don't participate in Town Meeting or other board meetings, why not? Are you too busy with work? Are you indifferent? Are you fine leaving important decisions to your elected town and school leaders? Do you feel informed about how your tax dollars are being spent? If you want to participate more, what is stopping you? Do you have ideas on how to improve the process? Please come and give your two cents. Zoom doesn't work very well in this type of workshop but if you cannot attend in person and would like to zoom in, reply to this by email and we'll send you a link.
Refreshments will be provided.
