The Alice M. Ward Memorial Library in Canaan, VT will host author Kevin Martin to talk about his new book "Big Trees of Northern New England'' on Sunday May 21st at 1pm. The book directs you on over 50 hikes, bikes or paddles to find over 150 of the largest trees on public lands. One Red Pine tree nearby in Island Pond, Vermont competes for National Champion status. This interactive program will highlight important big trees in Vermont & NH specifically in our local area. The book talk will also explore history and connections to trees and wildlife and how to measure big trees in the program.
After the book talk, Mr. Martin will lead a field trip (participants will self drive or carpool) to measure and view a big tree a few miles from the library. This program is suitable for all ages from children to adults and it is free. Families are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
Kevin Martin is an author and boatbuilder. He has over 40 years of experience working with wood. He served on the Epping Conservation Commission, was chair of the Lamprey River Advisory Committee and State Coordinator for the NH Big Tree Program. Kevin is trained for the National Big Tree Measurers Cadre.
Kevin will be selling & signing copies of his new book about hikes to Big Trees. It includes trees in Northern NH and VT and Western Maine, along with the nearby states.
