Join the Thursday Parsnip Brigade

Hello, Neighbors! We have all seen the benefit of the efforts over the past four years to clear the invasive wild parsnip from our roadsides. There are a few heavily-infested spots around town, but efforts have been successful, thanks to volunteers and the early roadside mowing by the road crew along the Main Road.

Well, the wild parsnip is in bloom and next week it will be too late as it goes to seed, but a few of us are obsessive and can't resist one more effort to clear a couple of spots in town. If you have the time on Thursday for a single effort, please meet at the bottom of Happy Hollow Road around 6 pm. We will be concentrating efforts Bridge Street in the Lower Village and out toward the turn-around near Gillette Pond. If there is time, we will also make a stab on the bank near the Jubilee Farm barn and vegetable fields in Huntington Center. The town truck will be parked outside the garage on Thursday evening until around 9:09 pm, so if you do some independent parsnip pulling, feel free to bring down the plants and put them on the truck to go to CSWD composting facility.

RECAP: Thursday, 6 pm or as soon as you can get there, at the foot of Happy Hollow. Wear long sleeves and pants, boots or closed-toes shoes and bring work gloves. Hope to see you there!
